    Insomniacs unite....

I've been in the Navy for a long time and insomnia comes at the worst times. This past year I've been working shiftwork ashore: two 12 hour days (0600-1800), followed by two 12 hour nights, then 5 days off. The cycle is hardest after my second night shift. Last year, when I was still on a ship...

    First bushcraft knife

I recommend whatever inexpensive Mora that is easily available. For teens and people new to knives and the outdoors I invariably recommend stainless. Mora's stainless is of excellent quality and the heat treatment is very good. Stainless will just provide that comfortable buffer for someone who...

    Going Lighter....

I've done all kinds of things to cut weight but ultimately have found that comfort on the trail is discomfort in camp. (Or conversely, discomfort on the trail is comfort in the camp.) I reduce weight by eliminating duplication/variety/comfort items. Water bottle, pot and spoon instead of water...

How many knives for a bushcraft trip.

I carry two knives at a minimum and often three. A Mora on the belt and a Vic SAK SI are habitual. If I'm carrying a survival kit I have a VIC SAK Hiker or OHT depending on the kit. Very often I'll also have a crooked knife and a Mora carving knife in my pack.

    What is a Literature Review?

I don't think XRV's reply could be improved upon. My ex wife was an academic and often the lit review was the longest phase of her research projects.

    Laburnum Bushcrafter.

Wow. Nice work. The size is deceptive until you see it in the hand. Lucky guy.

Regrets? What would you do differently

I'd like to say I wish I had applied myself at school and gotten a scholarship to uni instead of trying to work my way through, however I'd have eventually missed out on my son. Same goes with the idea of wishing I had skipped uni altogether ether and instead had invested my tuition in Apple or...

I’d be happy to carry a knife like that. Well done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    GSI stainless frying pan

Looks like a good product. I have a similarly sized MSR but it’s stainless with no coating. Unfortunately the handle doesn’t fold, it only detaches. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Socca

It looks sort of like a chickpea version of naan bread. I’ll give it a go as one of my Venturer Scouts is gluten free. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wool blanket or synthetic fleece blanket

I have a Hudson Bay Company 6 point blanket. It’s heavier than my -20C hybrid sleeping bag. It packs at about the same volume. It’s not in anyway nearly warm enough on its own for much less than 10C. It’s more than twice as heavy as a Canadian Forces Wool blanket but has 3-4 times the loft. I...

Are we doomed as a species?

My father and I almost got a Darwin award. We were at the camp doing a reno project and were smoking when we went to refuel the generator to run some power tools. Just as we were about to uncap the generator and the gas can, I mentioned perhaps we should finish our cigarettes before continuing...

    Vagabond bag with front pockets

What an interesting pack. I've never seen anything quite like it.

    For Sale First aid kits..

I have a similar kit container but over the last fifteen years I've restocked pretty much everything in it. I really don't pay much attention to the expiry dates, but my GF (A&E Doc) says I should put dates of items in the kit and check them twice a year (When we change to/from Standard from/to...

Are we doomed as a species?

I'm not sure what this has to do with our species since this idiot is an a$$-hat, not a human.
