Ahh. I can see these catching on over here. Of course once The Nanny States Health n Safety folks have removed anything remotely fun, what you'll have left is an indoor, routine filled, overly protective boring place. A lot like there is now..

Brilliant! I actually felt sad watching as i don't think my kids will get the chance to go to some thing as sencible as this.i'm glad there's at least one in the uk.

Utterly brilliant. Everything Scandinavian is just designed to an awesome standard.

I know our schools are light years behind the Scandinavians and don't have such a broad acceptance of the outdoors, but then it's just up to us parents to fill the gaps with those all important extra curricular activities that are so precious.

The outdoors to us as a family is as normal as 3 square meals a day.........hc

Brilliant! I've done a fair bit of outdoor education (did a bug hunt for kids last Friday) and the children always love it. Good to get parents involved too, so that they see that if their children get a bit dirty, it doesn't matter much.

Absolutely wonderful to see the tool use in that film. Can you see us letting kids use knives at that age over here?

That is so cool. Love it, Wish our little girl could go to that kindergarton. Anyone notice that all the men spoke english but the women did not? What gives?

TBH my youngest's nursery tries to have the kids outside as much as possible too, cold, warm, light rain or shine, obviously heavy rain they retreat indoors but they're happy to take them on walks and play out in their big garden :D

Guys it IS happening here and on a growing scale.

I've been running Forest School sessions for years now and there are schools across the UK who have qualified teachers capable of running the courses to their pupils.
We even offer Forest School specific First Aid courses on our website now.
It's a fantastic thing for all ages (but I'll be preaching to the converted on here ;-))

Wondered how long it would be till someone mentioned Forest Schools. I helped out for the day on a week long session, and it was just like the excellent video. It was a private firm with rich folks kids, but they really enjoyed it. There was some daft activities though where the kids got frustrated as did I, and this mainly involved doing risky things in an over safe way. I would teach them how to manage the risk as did the lady in the video, or forgot about it (this was using a Potato peeler instead of a knife on hardwood?) until they can manage it.
I think teachers are still learning what's best for sessions and age groups, and as long as it progresses and there's plenty of play involved too at the younger ages, it should all be a good thing.
