I'm not trying to bypass the closed thread, just offering some help to NatG.

How about some temp work? Not very original I know, but if you register with an agency they'll usually find something for you within a couple of days. It's worked for me in the past. Only problem is it's student holiday season. My lad is having problems finding part time work (Oxford). Just don't be too fussy about what they offer. I've unpacked boxes of canned pilchards, handballing off a container lorry before. Flippin heavy hard laborious work.
Take whatever. It'll all be an experience. :( , but at least put a few squidders in your pocket until the real job starts.

Oh and by the way, my son got his A level results today. Philosophy A....English Lit A... Higher maths C...........chuffed to bits and dead proud of him. I only managed 8 CSE's highest grade was 2 (as it was in those days.) He's retaking the Maths which is the one he's struggled with, but at least he can concentrate on just that ONE now. Very proud of my lad. He's worked hard and deserves it. :You_Rock_

Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion:) I got my a level results yesterday too- not quite as good as your sons unfortunately!

i'm signed up to 3 agencies, but the problem is that they are so oversubscribed with students from the university here and all of the students back home from other universities that they have no sparee work for me, On top of that royal mail haven't renewed my contract and i lost my gardening job and missed out on a job as a chef because the woman wanted a mother rather than some kid.

i'll definitely look into the fruit picking thing- there's a few fruit farms near here, it's a really good idea, thanks:)

also, thanks for opening this thread to offer help, it's really appreciated:)
