I found a petition today that is asking for legislation to require online retailers to disclose what courier service they are using up front, so that consumers can make an informed choice about whether to buy from the retailer if they use a courier which is known nationally or locally for poor delivery performance.

I think this is a *brilliant* idea and would drive improved performance because it would create consequences for poor couriers (we all know who they are....) and also help the better (but maybe slightly more expensive ones who pay/treat their staff better) because retailers who used poor couriers would lose sales.

I admit, I found (and signed this) when trying to find a means of contacting a courier (white on blue logo, changed names not too long ago) about a parcel that is basically missing- they say they have attempted delivery (not true) and follow up is in the usual chatbot loop of doom. At best I should get my money back and it wasn't a great amount anyway- but that's not the point- I actually want the goods, otherwise I would not have ordered them! Unfortunately, I could not tell who the courier was before I ordered.......

Anyhow, this petition idea is such a good one and about the only thing that would focus the minds of the retailers who use poor couriers.

The petition is here: https://c.org/Xd2MCmnhHg

I encourage others to sign it as I have done, it would also be great if something like Which? picked this up- is anyone a member who could pass the message on?

Would this make much difference to people's habits? Ebay, for example, usually allows you to pay a bit more for Royal Mail but I wonder how many people just use the cheapest option? I normally pay the extra for RM as I get tracking and know roughly what time it will be delivered.

Edit.to add, Evri tend to he fine here.

I think we must be very lucky, but truthfully the Post Office, Evri, DPD, etc., have all been excellent here.
I like the tracking on some more than others, and I get rather fed up filling in the feedback things, but I have no issues with the delivery folks.

I've found my experience with a courier relates almost entirely to the last leg, from delivery depot to my door. That is therefore influenced by the individual(s) undertaking that particular part of the journey, and is therefore subject to unknown change, week to week or even day by day.

I've found them all equally crap, and all equally good over time, so have stopped caring which company is used, unless dealing with particularly high value/importance parcels.

If it's not stated and it's something important to me, then I ask the supplier.
And sometimes offer to pay more for a different courier if I know theirs will not in fact deliver it to my home. (This is usually RM Post, who will not deliver it if it will not fit thru the letterbox. ) Suppliers usually agree and value the feedback.
