Hi everyone,

My son wants a flint & steel (after seeing them on Minecraft) so I may as well get a good functioning one. Any recommendations?

Thank you.

Real flint and steel or a ferrorod?
The latter will be much easier to use and can get them in many outdoor shops or online. They’re all much of a muchness though personally I’d get one that isn’t too thin.
Then you’ll need some tinder - cottonwool makeup pads and Vaseline good place to start.

There’s loads of info on how to use -

He won’t - not with a flint and steel.

He’s going to have to have patience.
Are you happy with the system yourself? I find it’s the transfer that’s harder than the ember.

I gave two six year old Grandsons ferro rods and scrapers when we camped in the spring. They used those well (They objected to them being stored with the camp kit after we got home)

The best of luck. I hope it works out.
