Hiya...
Been lurking in the forums for a while so decided it was about time I signed up!!
Have always enjoyed being out in the countryside whether that's hill walking, mine exploring or mountain biking or just generally being out in the woods.
My old stomping ground was the Forest of Dean but moved to the Brecon Beacons about 10 years ago... Now blessed to live in a property with a small "wood" (ie ash plantation) as part of the garden. 10 years later I still feel like I'm on holiday every weekend! "Hiraeth"(Sorry to rub it in! ).
Over the last couple of years I've got interested in spoon/ bowl carving to add to my list of hobbies. When the weather's good at the weekend my wife and I often finish off a day of working in the garden sitting around a fire pit in the wood, cooking over it, (she reads while I carve) watching the birds and just generally enjoying being in this part of our garden.
On the rare occasions it's too hot to do anything the hammocks get slung from trees and we just enjoy gently swinging with a book and a cold drink...
Living here rekindled an old interest in bushcraft, I only dabble occasionally but my brother is interested in it so we meet up occasionally either here or in the FoD.
Whenever we're out in our local area I keep an eye out for potential hammock camping spots... only tried at home so far!
I also enjoy a "homesteading" slant to life here such as felling trees and processing it all for firewood (we've not bought any firewood for 10 years, currently have about 5 years worth split and stacked! - my family joke that I'm obsessed with firewood!). Used to have 30 or so chickens but the price of their food nearly doubled since the Ukraine war so got rid of them, had to sell all the eggs just to break even; we did all the work for everyone else to enjoy them! We also try and grow a variety of vegetables but at 900' up we have a short growing season!
That's a little about me and my interests,
Cheers
Neil
