Pine martens

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Lidl in Glasgow still anti Marten spray. Apparently to use on cables to discourage nibbling. I had no idea martens were a problem, thought they were too rare and secretive in habits to come too near human habitation.

Are they really a problem anywhere? Guess this photo they could be.

Yep, they will go into lofts and sheds, make nests where there is any dark secluded space and nibble through anything that takes their fancy :)

Up in West Scotland there have been good populations for a while. I stayed in a lodge about 15 years ago where they would come into the conservatory every night to take peanut butter and jam sandwiches - probably not the best diet our hosts could offer them :)

Not a problem at all in fact the opposite a delight - we love seeing them. They visit our windowsill every evening and early morning to eat the peanuts we put out for them and then disappear back into the woods.
