Not quite bushcraft but somewhat adjacent. I work airside and have to bring food in through airport security like getting on a plane, I also have a long commute by public transport. I am looking for some alternatives to change up my lunch options as noodles and tofu are getting a bit boring.
Is anybody aware of any pouches of chicken either flavoured or plain in the UK? I can find tinned but that's quite a hassle as they are awkward to pack in my bag so something flat is ideal.

Freeze dried rations is the closest I can think of just now.

Just to cover the headline, pure amino acids are quite long lasting if stored dry. A mix of essential amino acids can be bought, taste is not that great and it should not be considered a meal but it covers protein. :D

Not chicken, but good protein in a flat pack.

Chicken makes jerky very easily, through turkey seemed to be preferred.

I'm a good vegetarian, and even I managed to made venison, chicken, turkey and pork jerky without fuss just using a home dehydrator.
Just be careful with your hygiene and there'll be no issues.

Rehydrated just fine too to cook with.

This could be a good excuse to buy a dehydrator. Thanks Toddy

I bought the cheapest one available at the time; five round trays and a lid, no timer, just a sort of basic on and off, and it worked fine. Cost me under thirty quid and had a lot of use before I passed it along...we bought a rectangular one that was easier to store, etc., and has a thermostat.

Truthfully they both made good dried food :) just keep an eye on them and turn stuff around.

I think if you're going to do a lot, in all seasons, it's worth spending more and getting something that you don't need to keep an occasional look in on, turn the trays sort of thing, but otherwise, and if you're just giving it a shot, thirty quid was worth it :D

I think Nesbits might be a good look for something professional

Wow! That's much cheaper than I imagined. Cheers.

Just to elaborate on the shelf stable bit, I would like to be able to bring a bunch of food in and keep it in my locker, just so I'm not trekking back and forth every week with loads of gear

I used to work airside so can understand the issue.

Can I ask if there is a requirement for protein AT work? How long are your shifts?

I would suggest getting some real food heavy in protein before work and then keeping some protein powder for at work. Or Biltong.

I am just bored of eating rice and noodles! I don't really like fish but it struck me in Tesco the other day that there was a whole aisle of various packets of fish but barely anything of chicken or meat, apart from spam and luncheon meat, so I thought I might be missing a trick.

Biltong is the best thing I can think of. My butcher does it.

Its possible to dehydrate yourself and i'm not sating don't - but , well - see how you get on with it.

I had a go at dehydrating myself after the rugby on Saturday, I didn't feel great yesterday....

How about MMMMMMMMatesons curled sausages? Only the best parts of meat used.

Or Pepperami cut up over noodles can work.

If I remember correctly - I've seen these stored in the chiller section AND outside the chiller section - so maybe worth looking into.
