Chemical blueing

Just wondering, has anybody tried the chemical blueing you use to refreshen the blueing on guns, on a carbon steel knife?

I suspect it will wear out fairly rapidly?

Yes. Try the birchwood Casey paste. It works pretty well.

You can remove blue very easily with a soak in vinegar.

looks nice lasts not at all! I put it on one knife I may not of got the process quite right but it was not enduring, if you can strip and get it to a company that dose hard blueing that would last a lot better.

Stripping it will get a more even finish. You need to build it up and it will look pretty good.

I have a project on my bench now. I will try to do it and take photos this week for you.

It’s never going to last like hot bluing but that isn’t really what it’s about.
