HI I am planning to buy a knife kit from either SWC knives http://swc-handmade-knives.com/ or MS knives http://msknives.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/

They both offer a Woodlorish knife kit and I would like to know what experience people here have had with either maker.

They both make great looking knives, just wondering if anyone has any experience with them regarding heat treat, edge retention, cutting bevels etc...

Also what angle cutting edge will be serve me for light to medium duty cutting, and possibly some baton work?

Thanks.

Geoffrey.

I've no personal experience with either of them, not come across MS before but the SWC knives have been mentioned on the forum. Try the search function and see what crops up. Just going from whats on their sites I'd go for SWC. Check out the leaf etched beauty in the custom section  As for grind preference the standard knife looks a pretty good allrounder (although I'm beginning to prefer full height convex grinds myself).

No experience with either ...

SWC is a member on BB IIRC, if not Martyn or someone else will correct me ;), and MS (Mick Spain) is a member here on BCUK.

My 2 € cents of irrelevant info to your question

Thanks for the reply. I tried a search but the terms are to short. I also prefer a full convex grind. Since they are both makers of scandi grinds I was not sure how well a convex would turn out.

The leaf custom finish looks amazing for sure!

Thanks again.

Geoffrey,
You can't go far wrong with one of Steve's kits (SWC - Stephen Wade Cox ;) )
His grinds work out to 30 degrees so are pretty good for all that you have mentioned and I can't fault the edge retention of the steel. I bought a kit at the beginning of this year and have used it regularly for feathersticks, battoning, general trimming and cutting tasks and am very pleased with its performance.
