As question, I managed to bodge a poncho liner into a quilt but haven't tried it yet.

what are you using that works? cheap, light weight if there is such a thing.

I use a poncho liner too, I've found it be pretty good for warmer weather. In conjunction with a CCF mat or blanket its ok for the colder weather. But then I've never tried a proper UQ to compare it too.

I'm still using the US GI Poncho Liner and I never have any problems (no matter how low the temperatures get)

The trick is to hang low so the air isn't moving underneath the underquilt or hammock. Yes, you'll be just a few inches off the ground when laying in the hammock, but you'll be nice and toasty all night long)
