Hello everyone, and thank you for confirming my registration :0)
I’m Jez, I’m late 40s and I live in Hampshire.
I’ve joined because my interest in Bushcraft has been increasing of late!
My Dad was a Defence diver and Bomb disposal specialist in the Navy so did lots of survival training including escape and evasion, infiltration etc and taught us bits and pieces see we grew up. It also meant we were brought up in a very outdoorsy culture and as a consequence I’ve always done lots of outdoor activities - especially camping, hiking, orienteering, kayaking, surfing cooking over fire, growing our own food (not yet self sufficient but getting there for fruit and veg). I’ve done quite a lot of woodworking using traditional hand tools (including making my own greenhouse and various bits of furniture from scratch). The only change really as I’ve got older is I’ve bought more (and to my wife’s dismay more expensive!) kit to do it with :0)
I’m particularly interested in kit (obviously!), knife and axe skills, shelter making, fire making, foraging and preparing food, general survival skills, carving and woodcraft - I guess pretty much everything Bushcraft!
Have only just discovered the forum and loving it from what I’ve read so far! Have ordered a second hand copy of Northern Bushcraft by Mors Kochanski based upon some of the reviews on here. Grateful for any other pointers to good books or sources of info, particularly good YouTube channels or podcasts. I’ve been watching the hilarious ‘Dutch Bushcraft Knives’ channel recently but find it hard to navigate the many many other Bushcraft channels around.
Thanks again for having me and I look forward to being a member of the community.
Jez
