I'm looking at buying a watch from ebay thats in Germany.

if i win it it may cost up to £500.

Does anyone know if there will be more charges if it lands at my door?

Thanks

Further to this, can i expect the extra VAT to be calculated by ebay at the end of the auction or do they collect it another way?

When buying things now on eBay UK from Europe, the custom charges never seem to be fixed or related to the price of the item, so there can be some nasty surprises, especially for smaller objects where the custom fees are sometimes higher than the price of the object. That is probably because the sum to be paid at customs is calculated by eBay themselves. There is very often 20% VAT added on to the total sum now too, which isn't always indicated until you go to pay.
British customs can be a little difficult too with incoming goods & may hold the parcel without informing either the sender or recipient & when you contact them to see if it is held up, they'll likely inform you there are more custom charges to pay.
On the other hand, things can go smoothly & there are no unpleasant surprises.

To close this thread I did get charges from fedex so here's the final cost:
Watch 334 Euros
shipping 55 Euros
Paying by visa £10
FedEx bill £80

If shipping was 55, why did Fedex take another 80?

When I bought the dagger from Tod Cutler in UK I had to pay 40euros tax. Beside cost of dagger and postfee 13 punds.

I assume the postage was insured and the Vat was on top from Customs. I did have a break down from fedex explaining the charges. Basically what gg said.
