    The sleeping bag minefield

I have had for about 20 yrs a fleece bag liner from RAB which I've found to be excellent as a boost to your normal bag. I also use it in the summer on its own or in a bivi bag. Sleeping bags are always a problem for me as I hate a side zip. For that reason I ended up getting a Woodlaw bag...

Portable Solar Panel use, thoughts and a review

Same here so far I've not found anything that great. I have some power packs I charge from a car etc but the solar panels haven't been good. Even the small car one which is supposed to keep the battery topped up.

Pocketable camera for outdoors use / family snaps - Any suggestions?

Yes verbatim are good. One thing to note. DVD-R and DVD+R are what you want to use for archiving. You are taking about 100 years. Rewritable and RAM dvd's only good for about 25 years. Other cheaper brands won't be as good and certainly won't offer any information or guarantee.

Pocketable camera for outdoors use / family snaps - Any suggestions?

I've a Sony compact can't think of the model but it super slim and waterproof. I've taken it snorkelling with no problems. The finish coating is coming off now but it's years old and still takes great photos. It's my go to camera when I don't want to carry my DSLR or even my Nikon P7100...

    Machete and Kurki recommandations ?

Guys all in all the talk on weapon or not isn't relevant to the thread and doesn't help in the choice of getting a Machete or Kurki. For one I would say the Kurki is harder tool too master. Perhaps it really comes down to personnel taste. I think for me a knife and axe come up best...

    Re waterproofing?

Paramo has proved to be the best I've used. More importantly for me is it's silent nature. However I do love my old olive sas smock. Not fully waterproof but good in most conditions.

    Tripod choice and carry options

Unfortunately not in your budget but my favourite travel tripod is Brain from 3legged thing. It's great one leg unscrews to give you a monopod it's light weight and has been fine with my Nikons and a 70-200 f2.8 on top. http://www.3leggedthing.com/brianevo2.html

How many jackets are too many ?

Reading this I can now justify getting a few more :-) as the average appears to be between 20-30.
