    Elwell axe head restoration

I found a similar 5lb in the same pattern got a 36" handle from wood smith experience. A 5lb is heavy enough you would've needed some muscle to swing a 7lb all day, nice work

How many knives for a bushcraft trip.

For me it would be 2 blades, main fixed blade either a TBS Boar, Mora companion or a Helle BraKar and a Boker techtool 3. Also alway have a axe with me but that's it as for cutting tools

    Utility with Filework.

That file work is magic, probably the best i've seen on a knife.

    Second Knife Attempt

It'd be nice to have a shop full of power at my dispense but I think being limited definitely forces me think outside the box and I think that can be part of the fun. So thanks I can't wait to get some proper use with it.

    Second Knife Attempt

So I had a go at making a kiridashi as my first foray into making knives (here) and used the blade from an old stanley plane, well I had another piece of steel left over with the intention of making a small carving/utility knife. Here's what I came up with: Length is 6.25", Edge is 2", 2mm...

    old axe resto?

I had a head with poll damage like that with the first axe I restored I just used a file and a lot of elbow grease at the time but now I've got an angle grinder I wouldn't go back and tbh the axe doesn't get too hot unless you really go hard on it.

    Hultafors wins again.

That's very true, my most used axe is a £10 brades i restored for carving and splitting small fire wood. That being said I was having trouble finding something in the 2-3lb mark as a middle axe, I've got a heavier 5lb welsh pattern but I wanted something shorter/lighter for packing and I didn't...

    Flexcut Carving Jack - RH

    Sorry now swapped

    Hultafors wins again.

That's good to hear, there is definitely an allure to GB axes but so far I'm not displeased I chose the cheap HB axes

    Hultafors wins again.

Sounds very charaterful, hoping to use mine too soon

    Hultafors wins again.

So over the last few weeks I've been looking at getting a larger axe to compliment my smaller HB hunting axe with something a bit more powerfull/leverage for small felling. Anyways I was originally looking at getting a Gransfors either a wilderness or scandinavian forest but they are never...

Gransfors Bruk Double Bit Axe Failure

Not sure about GB axes but I was chopping wood with my hultafors hunting axe, glanced the piece and hit the bit into a slab on the floor. It chipped the slab and all I had was a slightly flattened edge. Maybe the GB axes are harder but the OPs seems like it has a fault HT
