First Impressions

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for years, I’m sure you will have come across a head torch. They come in all shapes and sizes, some good some not so much, however I think I’ve come across a little gem with this one, and when I say little I really mean it, this is the smallest head torch I’ve come across.

When it arrived with me I was surprised with the packaging, as it came in a handy travel case which not only protects it from bumps, but it also has a small mesh pouch inside for the USB charging cable, something I would expect from a high-end item.

As for physical weight it’s very low indeed, so much so that you don’t notice you’re wearing it. For me this is a massive plus point, another plus for me is the fact it has a single band around your head, not the second one over the top, I find these get in the way depending on what head gear you’re wearing.

It’s got two buttons on the top, well I say two but it’s one long rubber button with a left and right, one side is for the main beam the other for the flood light. You can also use multiple presses to change the intensity of the light or turn on the red light (another model comes with green). On the underside is a rubber bung that covers the USB charging port.

Sunblesa say the torch is waterproof with a IP65 rating, if you’re like me and have no idea what this means, Google says that this rating will protect against dust and water jets from all angles, it’s not submergible. So when they say waterproof, it’s not necessarily correct, but it’s good for being out in the rain all day, just don’t go diving with it.

Ease Of Use

I’ve had this torch for some time now so I’ve been able to put it to work on a number of occasions, every time being my go to lamp. I’ve used many makes over the years, and have four to chose from however this one always goes with me now. As you can imagine the battery life is reflected in its small size, that said it’s never run out of power even when used for an night walk over a number of hours. If you were planning on a multi night trip, or a camping weekend I would recommend a power pack to charge it back up, although most would have one for other electronics such as phones anyway, so it’s not really and issue.

The buttons are on the small side so if your using it with think winter gloves you’re going to find it hard, a small price to pay I think.

The head strap is wide enough that it doesn’t dig into your head, but not overly wide to look out of place with the size of the torch unit so a good balance has been achieved. It feels robustly made and looks good too.

The body of the lamp also tilts forward so you can point it down. The mechanism is a pair of plastic wheels which feel very “positive” so once they are where you want them, however it does move freely when you want.

Run Time

According to the Sunblesa the maximum run time is 200 hours, however that’s when on its lowest power setting, with the main beam you’re looking at more like 3 hours max. This doesn’t sound a great deal, but in reality would you really have main beam on for an extended period of time, it’s more likely that you’d have a flood light for walking, or the low consumption red when you’re sat in a tent.

This is a Chinese make, so the translation to English is a little less than desirable, but you get the idea.

My Thoughts

I have to admit I’m sold on this one. For the price (£22.99 on Amazon) it’s a belter of a head lamp, it’s low weight and high output makes for a great all round bit of kit. It feels robust and easy to use, charges quickly and last a good amount of time. This is a product I would personally recommend.
