Very good condition. This axe has been used hard over the years but very well cared for. It has not been a 'once in a blue moon' toy but when put to task it has been employed properly. Routinely re-sharpened using diamond/ceramic stones, it has had a ding or two by deflection but these have been hand filed down and the edge redone where needed.
The head has never come loose and is still 100% solid. It has been regularly covered in a layer of oil. The handle (including the eye) has been regularly oiled with boiled linseed oil, over the years becoming just a touch rough, which I find helps with grip when used one handed. It has never been over struck, but there is just a very slight chip just below the lug. Never been a problem and does not affect the strength of the axe.
The sheath has regularly coated with mink oil. The rivets are still solid, as is the strap. There are some marks on the leather from being carried on my belt, or strapped to a pack, but these just add to the story of the axe right.....? It has taken on a much darker colour over the years.
There's a century of life still left in this axe. If properly cared for it will outlast you!
(You can be buried with it like a viking if you want....)
Well, here's the pictures.....
