I appreciate this isn't seasonal but I'm pining for the winter...between Xmas and New Year 2004 we got a mini invasion of waxwings in our street that hung around for about 4 or 5 days stripping the berries off rowan trees and generally brightening up the place. I estimated flocks of between 40 and 50 individuals, a spectacular sight.

Last winter - 2005/6 I only saw a couple, again on the same rowan trees. What are other people's experiences of these birds?

Lovely birds, arn't they. I have only seen them once before and that was last year, but I did get some good photo's. Have not seen or even heard of one round here, this year. Thought they would of all gone by this time of year.............Jon

This winter there was a good waxwing influx in Holland with groups over a 200 individuals strong & groups of birds being reported from all over the country. The last sighting was just 3 weeks ago (which is very late for Holland). I only managed to see 2 lonely birds though but they still manage to cheer me up each time I encounter one. I just love the sound they make.
