Washing tents

I have a 10+ year old hiking tent where the inner has a certain eau du hiker and the outer holds water like a sponge. If I want to wash it and re water proof it, can I just stick it in a washing machine and do I use normal washing powder?

this will depend on the material that the tent is made of. normally i would nt use normal detergents and be carefull of what heat setting you use. a little more info on material would help us to give you a better response

You'd be better of using something like Nikwax Techwash

I happened to be standing by the nikwax stand at the time. So bought!

I clean mine with nickwax but do in in the bath to give it a thorough clean
