From the 'New Scientist'...

"The tropical rainforests of Papua New Guinea – in the top ten of the world's most biodiverse hotspots – are disappearing faster than anyone realised, according to a new report."

"According to the new report, 46% of the area of forest that has been destroyed has been used by subsistence farmers – the population of PNG is growing at 3% per year. But the authors blamed loggers for most of the loss."

"Malaysia is virtually completely logged out. Indonesia is nearly logged out. So in the last 15 years the logging companies have moved to PNG,"

Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
It's those Malaysian loggers.

Having got as much as they can here they are everywhere in the world, PNG, Indonesian , Solomon Islands.

Subsistence farmers may come in the wake of loggers and the roads they make to clear the rest of the forest.

Loggers are adept at pining the blame on the local people

Greed. Capitalism disdains the 'take what you need and leave the rest" credo. It favors the wholesale rape of land and water for personal enrichment, destroying the very environment we need in order to survive.

Besides that, capitalism is a good thing.
