Hi everyone,

I am new to the site so apologies if this is in the wrong section.

Just wondering if anyone can help, would greatly appreciate any help

I have always loved leather products and after months and months of slaving and saving up I decided to design my own products.

I managed to get a prototype made but was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of where I could find UK based leather manufacturers who can take my design and make it on the leather I bought?

Appreciate your help on this...I have been searching and emailing but have absolutely no luck

what kind of numbers are you talking here?

and for what type of products?

If its for a small number you might be better getting one of the leatherworkers on here to do it for you (if any are interested) if its a larger scale you will be talking quite a lot of money i would imagine to get everything set up ready to mass produce

Lol, thanks for the reply Dave.

Its going to be small scale simply because of budget so probably something like 10 to begin with and initially a product like a wallet or ipad case.

What I am trying to do is eventually create a brand of premium leather accessories ranging from wallets, iPad cases, belts and watch straps.

I really want to keep it British and would be more than happy to promote the leather worker helping us out on the site too.

An example of the type of look we are trying to achieve on our products is something like makr.com

I would be careful about just handing over your designs, copy right is sticky ground. If they can make it for you, they can market it also, with a tweak. Have you tried a independent saddler? Spain and Malta are places I know take in lots of commercial leather orders. Insisting on or sending over British hide. Uk manufacturing is generally small scale specialists & commands high manufacturing costs.

If honest, I am really new to this so tips like that is really helpful

I have thought of moving it abroad but this sounds a bit daft but I really want to do my bit and get things made in UK if we can afford it.

My friend has all her stuff in fabric manufactured in Bali. She pays Fair Trade prices and imports by the 40 foot shipping container. Her business took off and now she lives there in Bali and just exports.
