The tree
The limb and seed
This is the
Larch Larix decidua
The inner bark can be dried, and turned into a plup for flour.
The inner bark is an expectorant in chronic bronchitis and has also been given internally in the treatment of haemorrhage and cystitis. An extract of the bark is used as a laxative.
Most importantly is the resin. By drilling small holes to the middle of the tree large quantities can be tapped.
The resin is a natural wood preservative, varnish and had medicinal qualities. Distilling the resin produces natural turpentine and the remainder is the roisin used on violin bows
