I've seen Dean improvise one out of a foil chineese takeaway carton. It should be pretty easy to do if you just want something temporary to knock one up in the field.

excuse my dopeyness which bits the simmer ring?

Its not the burner, and its not the screw on cap (with the rubber seal)..... its the other bit ;-) You only get them on the civi modle. There is a pic here

It goes on top of the lit burner so you can adjust the flame by opening and closing it.
