Bit of an odd one here I know, but I have three Dell servers no longer doing anything. They were my 'home' servers when I worked in the PC/server arena. Specs are a rough guess because I have not had them connected up for so long that I can't remember. If it is really important, I can fire them up to check.

As proper servers, these all have built-in dual gigabit network, multiple RAID levels, redundant PSUs etc.

Would be great for learning on, running VMWare, or actually using (a lot of businesses are still happily using PE2800s)

Dell PowerEdge PE2800
  • This was my main server running a couple of virtual servers.
  • 5U Tower Case
  • 5GB ECC RAM
  • Dual 2.8GHz Xeon CPUs
  • Additional Fibre Dual Gigabit Network Card
  • Lot of HDs
  • Perfect working order and all panels where they should be
  • Runs Server 2003 (built-in license) or higher and VMWare ESXi/Vsphere

Dell PowerVault PV775N
  • Very high-end PowerVault, basically a full PE2650 server with multiple additional HD channels
  • Currently runs Server 2003 (most probably higher too, no reason why not) and Windows Datacentre Server
  • 3U Rackmount (I just stand it on its side though)
  • 2GB RAM (might be more)
  • Dual 2.8GHz Xeons
  • Multiple HDs
  • Perfect working order, everything in place

Dell PowerEdge PE1650
  • An older server that I used as a mail server and internet gateway
  • Runs Server 2003
  • 1U Rackmount (again I just put it on its side)
  • 2GB RAM
  • Dual CPUs but I can't remember the speed
  • Perfect working order

Thinking a trade value of around £100 is reasonable. I would get a lot more breaking them for parts on ebay, but I hate doing that to perfectly good kit. I would rather someone got to use them.

Not sure what I want really, obviously something bushy or sharp.

You'll need to collect (or meet me not too far away) from Rawtenstall, Lancs. The servers are heavy, especially the PE2800 which nearly killed me when I carried it up the stepladder into the loft where my kit lives.

Any interest?
