Thinking of buying Thermarest basecamp https://basecampfood.com/collection...EuU1APefRjfjkmHZYoQLFhAdn0h7SN8YaAguaEALw_wcB

what size would you recomend?
1- regular is 51 cm wide by 183 cm long
2-large is 64cm by 196 cm
5cm thick, R value is 6. What size sleeping pads do you prefer? Buying it because I want to be warm in spring/autumn. using it in conjunction with snugpak sleeper expedition bag, plus foam mat tp protect the underneath. Your wisdom and experience is greatly appreciated.

Don’t know about this one in particular, but I prefer a sleeping pad that’s slightly longer than I am tall and because I’m a side sleeper (and move a lot in my sleep) I prefer a wider sleeping pad if I have the option. It also depends on what kind of space you have e.g. In your tent and whether you’ll be carrying it or if it’s for car camping.

By what you're saying you're not planning on 'backpacking' with it so I see no reason (other than cost) to go for the smaller one; unless, of course, you're sharing a very narrow tent.

I will say that I still have my Thermarest (albeit a thinner one) from thirty years ago that's still going strong and has outlasted newer ones.

Broch.. did you find faults with the new thermarest ones? great to see that you've had the older one for 30 years.. what happened with the newer thermarest that you had?

I guess the ones with a foam core SIM might last longer than thet are are purely inflatable and mostly full of air/or have a smaller amount of insulation...? Anyway your comments have helped and I will go for it.
