One of the 21st century's little pleasures for the thinking man is opening the parcel from Amazon.
Following recommendations here I ordered Cache Lake Country - a bit old-fashioned and naturally US/Canada based, but a superb read and lots of superb advice and colonial understatement:'Hank was in a fix and no mistake' - translates as impending certain death in my book!
Also I got The Unabridged Jack London. If you enjoyed 'To Build a Fire' (available on the web) then you will definitely enjoy his other Yukon stories, and AFAIK this is the only way to get them all in one volume. 1100 pages for well under a tenner.
Also got a field guide to trees. I'm struggling a bit with this, but, hey, its winter!
