Having realised that not a single one of my plethora of knives is an EDC, (Mainly because I abhor slip joints as I've closed them on myself more than once) I saw a Svord Peasant on a thread here, and was taken by the design.

Googled, and got a black plastic handled one, and I must admit, I rather like it. A bit utilitarian, but hey, I want something that's going to work.

It stays open when you want it to, and you can close it without touching the blade, once it's shut, it stays shut.

Wasn't the sharpest thing out of the box, but 10 mins in the company of my sharpeners later on should see to that. I've not sharpened it as yet, because I want to grind / file the base of the blade to make absolutely sure it's sub 3 inch, measured round the edge. ATM it's about 3 1/16. Once that's done, I'll sharpen it up and see how it does. And yes, I'll take it easy. I'll probably just gently notch it using a chainsaw file.

I'll also round off the end of the handle, as on sitting down, it unceremoniously poked me <down there> and if it does that much more I may fall out with it.

All in all, I knew it'd probably need modding to be genuinely legal as an EDC, a sharpen goes without saying, most of the time. Having seen the pics, I thought it might have been a bit of a 'poker' on sitting down, but rounding off the back of it won't harm it too much too.

What I like best is the way the 'tang' is held whilst you're using it, thus preventing it closing on my fingers, without the presence of a legally outlawed restraining mechanism. I know I could have picked up a SAK, but it doesn't have the security of the peasant, as far as blade control goes.

It may potentially be open to interpretation by an over zealous plod, but I'm prepared to put my case, should I need to.

I'm not daft, I use knives at home, and round and about, but not at / for my work. (Airside at an airport) I'm doing a self build, and having a knife on me is always pretty handy. So much better if it's OK to have if I'm nipping to the builders merchants.

£11.99 well spent I think.

If you use a slipjoint correctly it wont close on you.
Svords are on the large side for EDC, even shortening it, because of the blade width they still look big. I found they were just too cumbersom and ugly for my pockets but they are decent steel, take and hold a decent edge and some people love them.

I have a wood handled oneand love it :)
I modded the tip to bring it sub 3" (mine came 3 and a bit" long) and made a 3mm leather belt slip for it.
I use it daily.

I've been looking at the peasant lately, and decided I need one. Asking a local knife importer about it.

Also plan on getting the BG friction scandi that SiberianFury has video reviewed.

Totally agree. Any knife can cut ya, even ones with big ol' honking guards. I've seen those guards catch on something and flip out of the hand and bite. It's not the knife, it's the user. Sharp tools require sharp minds.

It's usually when I'm in the process of closing them, particularly when there's a strong spring. TBH it's only happened a couple of times, when I was much, much younger. Unpleasant nonetheless.
