Guerilla guardening a blackthorn this afternoon I found myself thinking:

How many tree's make a Forest?

I read somewhere that an orchard is 5 or more apple trees. What then makes a forest? Where is the line between copse and woods and forest? Does the age or size of the tree matter?

Thoughts?

As far as I'm aware, "copse" is a phonetic misspelling of "coppice" which is pronounced "copse" (not "copp-iss") and implies the trees in there are coppiced. Don't think there is a minimum.

Were you taking cuttings or planting this blackthorn?

Fairly sure you don't even need trees in order for something to be called a forest in the past either.
Or at least the old Royal hunting forests didn't, more of an area for the posh to go hunting.
