It's like a massive tree fingerprint. Some of the trees in Greenwich park
have an amazing diamond shaped pattern in their bark, I must get a photo!

It looks like a sweet chestnut tree, really nice bark there is a swwet chestnut tree near to where i live in Bramhall And the bark on that is spectacular the twists and turns are great.

Yes, it is a sweet chestnut - an odd cultivar in a stately home - lovely thing though huh?

I really like sweet chestnut trees they can be so grand.

Sweet chestnit is such a lovely wood to work with too. Makes good longbows.

I've worked with sweet chestnut it is good, didn't know about making longbows from it might have to try it sometime.
