As a prelude to getting the scouts to make their own bows, my son made his own under my supervision. Using the new Tonkin bamboo (boy is it strong!!!) all that was required was one 8ft length, reduced to 5ft, with the remaining 3 ft length lashed 1ft from each tip, and a six inch peice located for the handle.
Begining the lashing..
The completed 5ft bow..
detail of one limb, clearly showing the simple structure...
The handle with lashed fades..
In action..
Sighted..

He is very pleased with his efforts, and rightly so...After all the fancy christmas presents, he's had more fun from a couple of quids worth of wood and string...just goes to show....
