After reading a few threads on here and BB, I'm thinking of getting one of these. I'd prefer not to buy from Ebay if I can help it. I've seen Heinnie have these for £48.95 delivered. Do any of you fine folks know of somewhere to get them cheaper?

I had a result on ebay with one of these..... £26. I first saw one when Phil562 demonstated it at a meet and I had to get one..........I am a fan, I have sharpened everything in the house inc sissors, axes etc. They are superb. The one I got was second hand, but looked like it had never been used. My lapp puukko is now so sharp it is unbelieveable...............Jon

Sorry Scanker,
Ebay came up trumps for me as well, £36 brand new from the States. Also got the UF stones from Newgraham knives for about £12 a pair.

They are just awsome sharpeners.

Ultra Fine. You can also buy diamond stones for the Sharpmaker - but they're not cheap!

I got my Sharpmaker from New Graham Knives in the US.

I don't have UF stones - I find that the standard fine white stones will get a knife very, very sharp - but I do have the diamond stones.
They are great to use when an edge needs reprofiling.

That I can understand...........On an old knife that has been sharpened elsewhere it can take 2 or 3 goes on the brown stones to get them to the right profile. I bet with the diamond stones this is quicker...............Jon

Heinnie seems to be about the cheapest shop price at the moment. As for the UF stones, I found when I was first getting the hang of the sharpmaker, all they did was blunt thing, but now I have it sussed, they really do make a huge difference, so much so that I don't need to strop after using them. Bear in mind that they are ultrafine, this means that they take off less metal than the fine stones which take off less metal than the brown stones, thus they are for finishing the job, not reprofiling a blade.

Don't you get caught with Customs when buying from Ebay in the States? I had to pay duty on a knife I got from there, about £6 on a £30 knife iirc. If that was the case I'd rather buy it over here and have it quicker. Thanks for the info though, esp Risby for the price-beating £42.
