Why not make one like the guys in Fiji and Samoa? It's basically a catapult, without the leather pouch but a continuous rubber band, and an arrow!

Thanks for the idea of making one but I have enough on my plate on the making front. Only last night I found the straightest seven feet of three inch round ash I have ever seen, It had to go. That will be my bow. I am also in the middle of various knives, sheaths and belts etc. One day I may well make one, but for now I hope that someone has one in a dusty corner that they are no longer using and want to swap it for something else.
