While sorting out my pictures form last summer, i came across this one.

a rather sneaky shot taken by a friend who appeared from nowhere with my camera but he did a great job of capturing the essence of camping. i must be the only photographer who doesn’t mind anyone using their camera and this picture is a great example why, even a novice can take interesting photos, I couldn't have done better myself =)

Any self respecting photographer I’m sure will tell you that a "real" picture is the product of a random, seemingly insignificant moment in time of which can provoke imagination or rekindle the memory of a dramatic experience. I hate the whole “say cheese” thing!

You miss 100% of the shots you never take ;)

P.S. I think I may have been looking for my camera at the time =/

Well put!
I share the same opinion when it comes to photography. I went walking in the Lakes with a friend and his family recently and every half hour we had to stop for photos. It was so cheesy - standing on a rock pointing at something in the middle distance; staring at the camera with a big grin while leaning on a stick; ''Right, everyone smile and Mick, get the binoculars out, make it look like you've seen something. And make sure we can see the map case so people know we were on a proper hike.''

Photo's that are set up only remind me of posing for the photo and if you pose for every photo then they don't evoke specific memories. The best pictures are the ones that make people say ''Hey, I remember that! I didn't know you were taking a photo!'' - the ones taken on the spur of the moment without the subject knowing.

Good pic by the way :) Looks like you found a good spot to camp.
