I mentioned on another thread i would post a tutorial for making a slow match from old shotgun shells. so here you go. The only thing i forgot to mention was that you need to trim the crimped end of the red shell too.

I get my rope on ebay here. no connection etc

And potassium nitrate can be had here. Must declare an interest as i know the guy but its dirt cheap

2 make the cord just dissolve 2 tablespoons of KNO3 in 2 litres of warm water in a well sealed container (butty box or 2l pop bottle) and soak overnight. lift out and drain well then dry flat. you rope should be supple, if its crusty and shows signs of crystals you've over done the KNO3

Once the rope has been burned once it will readily take a spark from a ferro rod, flint and steel or solar lens. For anyone coming to the RC Torm meet at rough close i will bring some along as gizzits

That's really cool, I suddenly realize I have that in a commercial form :) I inherited it from an Uncle in Germany who used to use it for lighting his cigs when it was too windy for matches.

the spark come from the wheel with a lighter flint, takes well although I have found the cord is loosing it's "majic".
Thank's for the post.
