I am considering buying a shimano exage travel spinning rod to add another dimention to my bushcraft outings .
Anyone with any experience using them ?
Are they any good ?
Any alternative buys ?

Any info will be greatfully received :)

Hi,

I have bought an 7/8ft Exage for a canoeing trip in Canada this summer.
Have tried it in local river - good action and very well finished rod. It is useful in that you can add or remove a 1ft section in front of the handle - which gives added flexibility in use.

Key for me though was the very small pack size and hard rod tube as part of the deal.

I used Sportfish - http://www.sportfish.co.uk/product/34251/Shimano_Exage_Spinning_Rods_.html
And would recommend them for service.

I'll let you know how it performs with Bass and Northern Pike after trip!

I have got one and i have been very pleased with it. it is really well made and lightweight. I have also caught large fish on it without it breaking. A great piece of kit.

Here another happy user. I've got the 1.8 meter one (or 6 foot, course). It's small, light, tough and although I'm a fly fisherman, I must confess that I enjoy it.

The first guide snapped on mine after about 6 hours casual use on my Exage STC spinning rod. Wasn't too happy about it, but Shimano promptly responded to my e-mail with an offer of repairing it for me. Haven't yet sent it back, but it's a good sign.
