Help please , just picked up a very nice flat grind blade, only problem is it is blunt and never having sharpened one of these before thought I would ask for any tips

Thanks in advance

Do you mean that it is flat from spine to edge?

If so, I've never seen one without a secondary bevel - you want to sharpen the secondary bevel exactly as you would a scandi grind, flat against the stone.

I usually prefer a slight convex on that sorta thing but that's just me!

Flat grind knife always has a secondary bevel, look closely and see if you can see it. If you use stones, diamond or whatever rest the flat on the stone then raise the back edge a little way up maybe and extra 10 degrees, hold that angle as you sharpen, then do the other side.

If you want an easy way or if you don't already have stones a spiderco sharpmaker or similar is ideal fro sharpening knives with secondary bevels.

i've also got a couple of knives with a flat bevel on one side, its litterally flat from spine to edge.
yet the other side has a bevel then secondary bevel on both.
any idea's?
