What is the best way to tie off the ends of a four strand round braid?

I want it to look right, but it dont have to be pretty.

Cheers

You have a chioce really.
You can either use the strings you have to tie the knot - a crown and wall works well for instance.
Or you can use another piece to create a decrotive knot. If you use this option I normally tie the strings of the braid together with some strong thread and then tie a turks head over the top of the thread
Here's one I did.
This is a turks head tutorial
And this is what I put it on

Best of luck

Bisamratte, yup, a doubled wall and crown is a good finial as is the Turk Head.

As an alternative , you might want to consider a full four stranded Matthew Walker.....and that will leave you with 4 strands coming centrally, out of the top; these you could feather into a taggle end.

Thankyou for the suggestions, :You_Rock_ I have settled on a walled crown, I've tried and failed with everything else. It is tricky because im using strips of leather and all the diagrams of these knots are done with three strand rope.

I'll post some pics of my efforts when I can figure out how to.

Hey Buckshot, that is some wonderful work you have there :notworthy

Thanks again

Thanks Mary and Bis
The great thing is it looks impressive but the techniques are fairly simple.
As with most braiding the hard parts are starting and stopping

Show us what you've got when it's finished.

Cheers

The braided lanyard I made is for a walking stick, I made the stick from pine that has been half eaten by insects. The wood is sound as the insects only tunneled under the bark. I think it makes some very interesting and pretty patterns.

Time for the pics

I made a loop in the end by poking a pencil through the braid, it is a bit tight but its good for adjusting

The patterns go all the way down the stick

Very swish, Andy absolute consistency of tension and orientation.
I like very much, the colours.

Hey up, though...thats just a single Wall ,n Crown, aint it?
No, no, no, let me rephrase that.
Thats looks like just a Wall and Crown; dont look doubled.

Im not sure, I sort of got lost on my tenth attemt  :lmao:

I think its a single wall and crown, knots just aint my thing.

Are there any books out there with nice simple drawings and step by step descriptions (probably called "knots for dummies" :D )
Everything I found on the internet had poor images and is based on using 3 strands. I eventually found this tutorial and sort of copied the knots.

Contrasting colours made it much easier to braid, and it looks good

Thanks

Andy
