Genuinely saddened by this. Just heard that Brummie Stokes passed away today as well. If you haven't read soldiers and Sherpas I highly recommend it. It's far from the typical sas biography, more about his climbing etc. And I used to love his show "a walk in the woods".

RIP Brummie!!

sad loss, the guy was born and brought up in the same place that I was in the Black Country, as a kid he used to climb a very tall bridge across a local canal known as High Bridges and he used to walk to Dudley to climb on the local limestone outcrops at a place called Wrens Nest, back then it was just a piece of roughland where kids played but it is now a nature reserve made world famous because of it's caves and fossils. I guess an adventurous life beckoned from an early age.
