Red Breasted Carrion Beetle

I noticed from a distance that this sheep's skull was crawling with some kind of beetle but by the time I got close enough to it to take a photo they had scurried underneath - you can just make out two circled in the photo.

Please excuse the poor photos, they are unbelievably quick :)

Anyway, it turns out they are Red Breasted Carrion Beetles Oiceoptoma thoracicum. They don't actually eat the carrion themselves but feed of the grubs and maggots that do - the cycle of life (and death) :)
