Recommendation for tough trekking sandals

Tough sandals with good grippy soles are very useful in hot countries for everyday use and going into water when necessary where you aren't worried about leeches, ticks, snakes or thorns. However, I have found that most of the ones I have used over the years tend to fall apart rather quickly with rough usage and especially when they have been submerged a few times. I used to think that synthetic was a better choice because more waterproof but now I'm not so sure because I think it's the adhesives that go, so perhaps stitched leather that doesn't mind getting wet sometimes would be a better choice?

Does anyone have recommendations for sandals that can take hard use and stay in one piece? Would be good if they are easily available in the UK.

Don't think leather likes water much. I agree the adhesives are suss. Could you physically stitch over the top of how the synthetics are glued.(and thru' the sole)?

They do look like a good fit to what I want but at £75 quite an outlay for sandals.

I can vouch for the Keen Newports, a good solid sandal, done many a hike through the gorges of Crete in them as well as many other treks in the Greek Islands, good toe protection and waterproof, perfect compromise between a walking shoe and a full on sandal.

I have to totally agree there, had mine ten years really solid sole and comfortable!

Looks almost Roman with a modern sole, very impressive and at £75 a good price for what you're getting. I think toe protection is very important, especially in rocky areas.

I have some Birkenstock sandals, well made and tough. Not cheap but wear well, good foot position and half sizes in both wide and standard fit (just make sure you measure your foot just like they say and use their size chart).
