Guys,

A small crack has been noticed in the "Red Hunter Axes" I have had up on group buy. A small crack is present in the unerneath of the eye at the front of the axe. I have spoken to Cegga about this and apparently its to do with the way the axe is made with a differential size on the eye and that the crack is only on the surface.

For an example see below.

Cegga assures me that he has never had an axe fail in use and that if anyone has any concerns over this, they need only return the axe for a full refund.

If anyone has any concerns and wants to do that, please let me know. I will personally ensure that no-one is left out of pocket

Subesequent checks have shown this is also there on GBs and Wetterlings axes!

Regards - Red

Sorry Red just went and checked mine and it has a small crack in the same place...Is it likely to get any worse when it is used?

That crack are on all axes it´s from making the hole and I guarantee that the axe will hold .And if you watch on your GB you have it there to I make the hole in the same way they are .If you use the axe and one will crack there I send 2 back or if you don´t trust me send the axe back and you get your money back .

Very interesting. I just looked at my GB and there was the crack. However, I can see the bottom of it so it does look to be superficial. Phew!! :D

Glad to hear that Fred! It was brought to my attention and I might have over-reacted (sorry Cegga)

I wanted this to be a "safety first" reaction though!

When I punch out the hole I have to do the hole little bigger on the downside just to get a small pice iron out and when I make it in size I have to forge it together
I made many axes then I mean many and I have not have one back thats broken because on that crack. I send a new one to Chas because thats his crack was to big my wrong , but it was more a goodwill axe I no that his first will hold but I want this axes to be real good not so much for me but for Red I no the axe is good :D
feal free to mail if you want more info .

Hi All
I have just checked both Gransfors I own and they both have a split in the same place as my Cegga Axe. I was one of the people who raised the issue of the apparent crack, both Cegga and Red immediately arranged a replacement for my axe, which now I have seen the splits on my Gransfors axes believe was not necessary. I can only praise Ceggas after sale service, because he put my concerns first, from raising my concerns to receiving a replacement axe took 6 days a standard of service many companies un the UK fail to deliver.
Having given the Cegga axe a good workout over the weekend I have every confidence in Ceggas craftmanship, and believe the axe could well out last me.
Thank you again Cegga I have an axe I can treasure and I am sure will out perform my Gransfors :You_Rock_

Well on the basis that I just caused a flap

Sorry to those I caused any worry to :(

Sorry to Cegga for any stress :(

My fault entirely

I heard about it and safety was my first concern.

I suppose I should have played the "corporate game" and not said anything until I had checked it out.

Stuff that though - safety first and I'd rather over- react than under-react. I'd rather have egg on my face (as I have) than even a miniscule risk.

Sorry again

Yep - both my GF SFA and Wildlife Hatchet have the same design.

No worries here as I'm chuffed to bits with my beautiful Red Hunters axe - it's a joy to own and a pleasure to use. It also comes in handy for butchering pigs and atl-alt targets:-

BTW - this is after using it to make feather sticks, chop kindling, split logs etc. and it has been used many times before and it is still as sharp as a razor. Perhaps one day it will need to be sharpened!!!!!! :D

Good for you Sir.

I also pointed out this "crack" to Red and I can't praise the way he has jumped on this. Not only has he PMed me several times but he has put safety first before knowing this is a normal feature of an axe made in this method.

Fair play to you mate - as usual, and expected, putting others before yourself ;) good on ya Red.

Best regards,

Phil.
