Found this under a fence, by a path, in a local nature reserve, any ideas?

Yep, also known as cuckoo pint.
Apparently while the plant is considered poisonous, the root when prepared correctly used to be used as a source in the old days. One thing I have not tried myself.
Wait for the fruiting part to appear deep red berries but not to be eaten.
