Plant and Fungi ID

Whilst out for a ride on Sunday found a couple of things I'd like ID'd, please.
Should immediately say that I'm sorry about the quality of the pictures - they were taken on a mobile phone camera.
I think this first one may be burdock - nice, big, broad green leaves. I'd like to know for sure because I want to make some dandelion and burdock beer and don't want to poison myself.

This other thing is a fungus I found growing on one of my favourite 'sit' trees. What is it, what is it useful for, and how should it be prepared? I'm sure I've seen pictures of them before on this site.

Yes you are right about the burdock, but it is not the best time year to eat it. When the leaves die off in winter of its first year is best the root is at its biggest.

the fungi is king alfreds cakes.
