If you look around a wood you'll find lots of little twigs that are pencil thickness and ideal to put in one of these to make tinder

They're made from something better.... magnesium.

I've had one similar to the one Mesquite shows in my pack for years. Really handy for producing small, thin shavings from any dry branch. Also useful for pencils, strangely enough.

Having it explode into flames was an interesting experience to say the least
