Noggin Question

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Crazy Crow Trading Company out of Texas offers a "canoe cup with barrel toggle". It is #4691-001-001 on their web site. www.crazycrow.com

As to a traditional carved out of a wood burl noggin, they are each unique and finding one would be kind of hard. You almost have to talk directly with somebody who made one.

Hope this helps.

although it's nice, I still prefer a Scandinavian kuska.

Oh. I thought it was going to be about Noggin the Nog (I have a picture of Nogworld as my pooter wallpaper).

Ragnar has them -- see about mid-way down the page:

The positioning on the hole in the handle on this style of noggin has both a liability and a benefit.

The liability is that if you fill it too full, liquid can flow into the handle area and out the handle hole.

The benefit is that if you want to pour or portion the contents, you can deliberately tip the noggin so fluid flows into the handle and out the hole.

Scandinavian kuska

Yeah, that's the item I couldn't remember the name of - kuska. Thanks, Eric.

A lot of people have discussed carving their own here. So a search for them should lead you to some sources.
