I had a rude awakening today. I "resorted" :D to using a dremel tool to do some fine shaping work on a billhook nose end; and was absoluteley astounded. Dremel rock's :D I'd seen them adverised on TV and thought yeah right ponsey toy if ever there was one, yer need a bluddy great grinding wheel to sharpen shears, not a dentist's rill  But how wrong I was. My wife got one a few year's ago for craft work (she hand make's doll's) but it didnt suit her, so I inherited it. I thought to be fair I'll try it out at least. It blew me away to be honest. Especialy how such small tools (I used a small grinding wheel about 1/2 inch dim) can make such fast cuts with very little over heating or clogging, amazing. And so easy to manouver instead of moving the blade relative to the wheel as you do with a normal grinder. For any one else who sneered at dremel's, try one out man, they have a mighty kick for there size.
cheers Jonathan :)

I've used them off and on for many years. Some jobs they do well other times I find traditional hand tools like a small file or a carving tool will be faster, smoother and lots easier to control. I tend to use a Dremel like a small handheld milling machine. Lately I have invested in some guides and jigs to do inlay and micro-drilling operations and find great improvement in the results.
