Just found a nice quote about a disputation between Richard Carew and Philp Sidney, probably both Gentlemen Commoners at Oxford University in the sixteenth century. Perhaps how all arguments on the Internet should end. Shall try to adopt its principle:

I'd like to agree but threads that meander on a bit then, ultimately, get locked can be quite entertaining
