Hi guys.
I'm after a cook set. I almost got myself this:
http://www.outdoorgb.com/p/tatonka_regular_cookset/
Tatonka regular cook set. It's perfect for me as I'm looking for something for serious cooking (already have light weight set for noodles/brew/ready meals). Two pots and a pan. Exactly what I need.

Just before ordering one I decided to browse one time thru the net to make sure I'm getting the best available...
Apparently something new came out. Something that wasn't there a month ago.
This little set:

And it's available from all sources (with the same photo and specs):

Hi gear, gelert, highlander, go outdoors, cotswold...

So I'm in trouble. Is it worth it or this copper thing is just a gimmick. I wouldn't mind buying this new thing over tatonka (less than 20 quid from ebay vs almost 40 for tatonka).

Any body used it? Any thoughts? I'm set to go stainless and I'm very happy with this configuration. I'm simply torn between tatonka and this new thing... Help.

I don't know if the copper makes any appreciable difference but I've had a very similar Vango set for years and used the pots for everything from boiling to baking ( they make lovely little round loaves). Good durable kit.

Like Ian I had a similar Vango set for years and they stood up really well to plenty of abuse.

I think the copper is to disperse the heat better, our kitchen pans are the same.

Thanks guys. Durability was my biggest concern. As much as I like tatonka I will go for this one.

One more thing, could any of you give me internal dimensions for the smaller pot? So I can plan a bit what to squeeze in :)

Vango set above,

Big pot: 13.5cm Ø x 6cm deep

Small pot: 12cm Ø x 5.5cm deep

Frypan: 16.5cm Ø x 4cm deep

AFAIK this set is still available @ around £15

I have the Gelert Trek 2 cookset (kid brother of this one), and I like it, although I don't use it that much. Don't know if the copper makes any diff, but the set works nicely and is relatively easy to clean.

The plastic on the handles and pot lids feels sort of cheap, but I've had no problems with it.

Interesting. I've seen copper pans before, but never copper-bottomed outdoorsy ones.

Do you mind giving us a quick heads-up on how they work out for you, should you order them?

Cheers

Yeah, I think that copper thing is just a sales pitch. And even if it works a little bit better that way it won't make much difference when you stick it in the bonfire :)
Thanks guys for all replies.

The copper bottom is useful on stoves or burners as it will distribute the heat better around the base & not concentrate it in the middle thus burning the food..........it would be better if they had solid copper bottoms but it looks like they are only copper plated....... better than nothing.

Copper plated stainless steel... bit like the Duossal or Inoxal pans then?
