Still not entirely sure what wood it was I picked up in a hedgerow last summer, but, I've spent a few evenings turning it into some useful items.

First up, a handle for a knife blade:

This knife is a simple hidden tang setup, it's intended for use in medieval reenactment, hence it being a rather bland arrangement. But it is beautifully sharp, and the shape of the handle is very nice to use. The colour of the wood has really come out nicely (hard to see in the photos) following a dab of walnut oil.

A pair of Firesteels:

This is a pair of fire steels, the top one splits to form a handle and sheath:

The lanyard is some waxed linen thread that I braided together to make a cord.

There is about 18" of the stick left, which will form the handle to another knife blade I have as well as a few other projects I am plotting.
