I gave my nephew his first SAK for his 12th birthday. It even was his first knife. The look on his face was amazing. We're going to the woods today and I'll teach him a few basic knife skills.

It was a Vic Spartan btw.

Kind regards,

Michiel

Funny, I gave my nephew his first SAK too for his birthday, last year. The only difference is that he's 10 and not 12 ;) I didn't have time so far to learn him some skills, but my brother (which is his father) tought him some ;)

I went to the woods with him this afternoon. It was great. I've camped with him before and he's a great kid. Lot's of interest in bushcraft and the outdoors in general. We made some tent pegs, fuzz sticks and a small shelter.
At the end we did a small contest. We both made a pothanger. His was as good as mine and I couldn't find a single flaw. I guess he's a nutural. I'm very proud he's my family and we both had a great time.

I remember my first knife. My Father gave it to me when I was about seven years old and I still have it tucked away in the back of my closet. It was a "My First Victorinox" but in those days the main blade wasn't rounded, but still pointed. And the screwdriver/tweezer combo hadn't been invented it. But I could be wrong, in my old age of 22 my memory isn't what it used to be! (haha) Still, it's something that I'll remember very dearly. Your first knife is like your first time but the feeling lasts a lot longer. :D

I'm not his uncle. I guess we have some differences in language. He's my uncles son. That would make him a cousin right?

Michiel
Nephew = if you are his uncle, all other options are cousins ;)

By the way, I don't even know how to make a pot stand :lmao:

Hehe. It's simple actually. If a 12 year old kid can do it, most of us can I think.

I went to the woods again today. We had a great time. Learned him how to sharpen his SAK (it's convexed). We first trained on a cheap opinel and then he sharpened his SAK. Did a great job! We both were proud. He because he could use and sharpen a knife, and me because I have a cousin who's bl**dy great!
